A True North Southerner: My Time In Nashville

Hey Friends!

It has been a whirlwind of a year with many ups and many downs… but thankfully mostly ups! It is really incredible to look back on the past year and see how much has changed in my life and my music career. Last June I had some major changes in my personal life shortly before my trip to Nashville to record and perform. It was one of the hardest times in my life. While I was in Nashville God opened up huge doors for myself and my new puppy, Cash, to move there and live with the most amazing family!! I was blessed to live in Nashville from September until June and it gave me the chance to find myself again.

It was truly a dream come true and I was able to work with some amazing people in the industry. I wrote so many songs and was blessed to co-write with some amazing writers including one of my huge musical inspirations Carolyn Dawn Johnson. I also had many opportunities to perform at writers rounds in Nashville and network, and just enjoy living in the south! My Nashville fam now considers me a true Nashvillian and I am honored.

We had some challenging times in Nashville the past few months starting with the massive tornado the beginning of March. My friends and I were fortunate to not be affected and gathered a group of neighbors (friends!!) to go help volunteer with the cleanup. It was truly heartwarming to see the community come together so well. When the pandemic hit I decided to stay in Nashville and wait it out with my Nashville fam jam (as I call them). The pandemic was tough on a lot of people, but it did provide time to slow down, reflect, enjoy the simple things in life, and plenty of time to songwrite.  We planted a garden (and it grew like crazy!!), cooked dinners together, played pranks on each other, and had great family time. Even with the fun, it’s easy to feel stuck in a rut at times, especially when most of us have been stuck at home for the past few months during this pandemic. When I’m feeling that way I like to hit the open road and drive until I don’t know where I am. The adventure of getting lost makes me feel alive! So one day I drove around the back roads of middle Tennessee with my windows down and sunroof open, enjoying the feeling of freedom. This inspired my latest single Get Lost which was co-written over Facetime with my producer Daniel Dennis. With references to Strawberry Wine, cruisin’ under a hot July moon, this song will give you the ultimate summer feels! I hope y’all love it as much as we do!!

My French bulldog Cash and I returned home to Alberta for the summer months and plan to return to Nashville in the fall. Nashville has truly become home and my heart is definitely in two places. I guess I can call myself a “True North Southerner” or “Canadian Nashvillian”. I am beyond blessed and very thankful that I get to enjoy the best of both worlds.
